Middleton is a town in Greater Manchester which stands on the River Irk 4.7 miles southwest of Rochdale and 5.1 miles North East of the City of Manchester.
Industrial scale textile manufacture was introduced to the town as a result of the Industrial Revolution. This was originally silk production which developed into a cotton spinning industry which continued through to the mid 20th Century.
The town centre offers many facilities including the Arndale Centre, a recently opened Tesco supermarket and the Middleton Arena.
