The story behind 41 Gordon St, Slaithwaite

We recently sat down with developer Steve Dobb who recently purchased the property, then proceeded to rip down the back wall and some other features, then re-build this 4 bedroom property in Slaithwaite, Huddersfield to what it is today. We asked Steve about the process and how he went about developing this stunning property.

“The project took just over 9 months from the day we purchased the house from Ryder & Dutton to putting the house back on the market with Ryder & Dutton. The site was challenging from the off and we had to build a 10 meter ramp to create access for a digger and dumper truck to site.

We estimate we removed 280 tonnes of material from the garden to create footings for the rear extension and to level the garden and then we completely rebuilt the rear elevation of the property, in order to create symmetry between the windows in the new dormer, the back bedrooms and the new rear extension.

As with all the properties we develop we are always asking the question ‘if I was going to live in this house what would I want in it’. For example we will put sockets in places where we think people will want to charge a mobile phone or use a hairdryer, that kind of thing.

I like to add extras that make the house stand out and give it a unique character. The property in Slaithwaite, includes a window seat in the main bedroom, we have included LED lighting in the handrails on the stairs and a bespoke entertainment unit has been built in the lounge. Other lighting features have been installed in the bathroom and kitchen in order to give the house individual character.

There has been no compromise on quality with the use of Italian porcelain tiles that run throughout the kitchen/living area but are also used on the outside patio area to link the indoor and outdoor spaces. Even underfloor heating has been used in the main living space and this along with the rest of the heating system can be controlled from a mobile phone!

Externally we have created the ideal entertaining space, with a large patio area with direct access to the house through bi fold doors. Along with this, recessed wall lights, spotlights, security lights, two outside taps and an electric point provide both functionality and atmosphere to the outside of property.”
